New Era Begins as Schottenheimer and Carroll Take Leadership Roles
The NFL sees a significant coaching shift as Brian Schottenheimer replaces Mike McCarthy with the Cowboys, and Pete Carroll returns to head coaching with the Raiders.

In a surprising turn of events, the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders have made significant coaching changes that will shape the landscape of the NFL for the upcoming season.
Dallas Cowboys Appoint Brian Schottenheimer
Brian Schottenheimer, recognized as the son of the legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer, has been elevated from offensive coordinator to head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Schottenheimer joins the Cowboys’ coaching ranks after serving under Mike McCarthy for three seasons. While he transitions into this new role, it is noteworthy that he does not possess prior head coaching experience, yet his 25 years within various NFL teams have undoubtedly prepared him for this challenge.
The Cowboys find themselves at a pivotal moment as they introduce Schottenheimer at a press conference set for Monday. His promotion comes on the heels of Mike McCarthy’s departure after a five-year tenure, during which he was knighted with the pressure of leading the team towards Super Bowl glory. Schottenheimer's extensive coaching lineage, traced to his father who amassed 200 wins and made playoff appearances with teams like the Cleveland Browns and the Kansas City Chiefs, adds depth to his leadership credentials.
Pete Carroll Takes the Helm in Las Vegas
On the other side of the league, veteran head coach Pete Carroll has been appointed as the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. At 73 years old, Carroll makes history as the oldest head coach in NFL history, returning to a head coaching role after ending his celebrated 14-year career with the Seattle Seahawks last season, culminating in a Super Bowl victory in 2014.
Replacing Antonio Pierce, who faced difficulties during his inaugural season, Carroll's experience will be crucial in turning around the Raiders, who finished the last season with a lackluster record of 4-13. With this appointment, Carroll becomes the fifth head coach of the Raiders since their move to Las Vegas in 2020, showcasing the team’s ongoing search for stability and success.
As both teams gear up for the next season, the decisions to appoint Schottenheimer and Carroll signal a fresh start, and both coaches will undoubtedly bring their unique styles and philosophies to their respective squads. The NFL landscape is poised for an exciting season ahead as these newly appointed leaders take charge.
