Edu Joins Nottingham Forest as Global Head of Football: A New Era Begins
Former Arsenal sporting director Edu joins Nottingham Forest in a new global head of football role, aiming to innovate and build a competitive football model.

Former Arsenal sporting director Edu has officially joined Nottingham Forest in a newly established role as Global Head of Football. This move marks a significant step for both Edu and the club, as Forest aims to strengthen its football operations on a global scale.
Edu’s Role and Responsibilities
Edu, 47, will oversee all football-related functions, including recruitment, performance, squad strategy, and player development. His extensive experience in football management and his vision for innovation make him a valuable asset for Forest.
A Storied Career
Edu’s football journey is impressive. He played for Arsenal between 2001 and 2005, winning two Premier League titles. After retiring, he rejoined Arsenal in 2019 as Technical Director and was promoted to Sporting Director in November 2022. He resigned in November 2024, paving the way for this new chapter with Nottingham Forest.
Vision for the Future
Edu expressed his excitement about the new role, stating, "I'm truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me. This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning. I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our president's [Evangelos Marinakis] ambition."
Forest’s Ambitious Plans
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who also controls Olympiakos and Rio Ave, has been actively expanding his football empire. Last December, he confirmed talks to purchase Brazilian side Vasco da Gama. Edu’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance Forest’s global presence and competitiveness.
Edu’s Legacy at Arsenal
At Arsenal, Edu played a pivotal role in recruiting manager Mikel Arteta, who led the Gunners to an FA Cup victory in his first season. Although major silverware has eluded Arsenal since, Edu is credited with transforming the club into genuine title contenders once again.
What’s Next for Nottingham Forest?
With Edu at the helm, Nottingham Forest is poised to make significant strides in the football world. His expertise and vision will likely shape the club’s future, making them a formidable force in both domestic and international competitions.
