Emma Finucane: The Relentless Pursuit of Gold at the 2028 Olympics

Emma Finucane aims for Olympic supremacy with a strategic approach as she prepares for the Los Angeles Games.

Emma Finucane, the remarkable track cyclist from Wales, is setting her sights on becoming an unstoppable force by the time the 2028 Olympics roll around in Los Angeles. After an extraordinary 2024, where she captured an Olympic gold medal, two bronze medals, and two World Championship golds, Finucane is not resting on her laurels but is instead geared up for a transformative approach in the coming years.

Refocused Training for Future Victories

Finucane, now 22, admitted that she will head back to the drawing board in 2025. "I want to win three gold medals at the next Games in LA," she told BBC Sport Wales. "So I need to find my weaknesses." Her plan includes a return to rigorous training, placing less emphasis on competing and more on honing her skills and physical fitness.

Mastering Emotions and Performance

Reflecting on her achievements from the past year, Finucane learned crucial lessons about emotional control. During the team sprint final in Paris, she faced overwhelming expectations, admitting she was "overwhelmed" and even cried before the race. However, she realized that managing emotions is vital in maintaining focus. "I’ve learned not to race on emotion. You get too caught up in it, and you forget how to race," she explained.

A New Era of Preparation

As she embarks on this new chapter, Finucane is taking a strategic break from competitive racing. In 2025, she plans to skip the European Championships and Nationals to focus on her training regimen. "The next couple of years will be about training, not so much about racing," she confirmed. Finucane aims to push the boundaries of her physical and mental limits, a thrilling prospect she finds exciting as she looks to perfect her craft.

Despite her accolades, the young cyclist remains humble and driven. Her time spent in Australia during the winter was not just for relaxation but a pivotal step towards improvement. With her eyes firmly fixed on the future, Finucane is determined to refine her skills and return stronger than ever.

The upcoming seasons promise to be crucial as she seeks to reclaim her position among the world’s best cyclists, with the ultimate goal set on Olympic glory in 2028. With resilience and relentless determination, Emma Finucane is on the path to redefine her limits and make history.
