Crystal Palace in Negotiations with NY Jets Owner for Club Shares
Crystal Palace is in talks with NY Jets owner Woody Johnson for the sale of club shares, potentially impacting their Europa League participation.

Crystal Palace is currently engaged in discussions with Woody Johnson, the owner of the NFL's New York Jets, regarding the sale of shares in the club. This move could have significant implications for the Eagles' participation in the upcoming Europa League season.
John Textor, a shareholder in Crystal Palace, has received an offer from Johnson to purchase his stake in the club. Textor, who also owns a majority stake in French side Lyon through his multi-club group Eagle Football, has been attempting to sell his shares in Palace for some time. Eagle Football currently holds a 43% stake in Crystal Palace.
UEFA regulations prohibit individuals from having control over more than one club in the same competition to prevent conflicts of interest. With Lyon also qualified for the Europa League, Palace has been in discussions with UEFA to argue that Textor does not have decisive control over the club. A decision from UEFA is expected by the end of the month.
Palace executives recently traveled to Switzerland to present their case to UEFA. If Textor successfully sells his shares to Johnson, it could pave the way for Crystal Palace to compete in the Europa League.
Woody Johnson, 78, has been a prominent figure in both sports and politics. He was a supporter of Donald Trump's presidential campaign and served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom during Trump's first term. There were reports last year that Johnson might step back from his role as chairman of the Jets to serve in a diplomatic capacity.
Both the New York Jets and Crystal Palace have been approached for comment on the ongoing negotiations.
