Marcelino Nunez's High-Stakes Transfer: From Norwich to Ipswich
Chilean midfielder Marcelino Nunez makes a controversial £10m move from Norwich City to Ipswich Town, stirring the Championship rivalry.

Ipswich Town has officially secured the services of Marcelino Nunez from their fierce rivals Norwich City for a reported fee of £10 million. This transfer marks a significant moment in the Championship, as Nunez becomes the first player to move directly between these two clubs since Andy Marshall in 2001.
Nunez, who joined Norwich from Universidad Catolica in the summer of 2022, has been a pivotal figure at Carrow Road, making 119 appearances. His last game for Norwich was a 2-1 victory at Portsmouth on August 16, where he unfortunately sustained an ankle injury.
The Chilean international is no stranger to the spotlight, having scored the winning goal in the most recent derby against Ipswich in April 2024. However, this move has sparked controversy among fans, with former Norwich goalkeeper Andy Marshall warning that Nunez can expect a hostile reception from the Canaries faithful.
Nunez has signed a four-year contract with Ipswich, where he is expected to fill the midfield void left by Sam Morsy, who led the team to consecutive promotions in 2023 and 2024 before departing for Kuwait SC in July.
The two teams are set to clash for the first time this season on October 5 at Portman Road, in what promises to be a highly charged encounter. This transfer not only shakes up the Championship but also adds an intriguing subplot to the ongoing rivalry between Norwich and Ipswich.
