Bath Secures Star Full-Back Santi Carreras from Gloucester for 2024 Season

Bath strengthens their squad by signing Argentine full-back Santi Carreras, a pivotal player for Gloucester.

Bath Rugby has officially announced the signing of Argentine full-back Santi Carreras from Gloucester, a move that will take effect at the conclusion of the current season. The 26-year-old Carreras has emerged as a key player for the Cherry and Whites, contributing significantly to their successful climb to third place in the Premiership standings this year.

Carreras, who made his international debut for the Pumas in 2019, has been a formidable presence on the field, earning 53 caps for his country, including participation in the 2023 Rugby World Cup held in France. His tenure at Kingsholm has been marked by impressive statistics, amassing 256 points in the Premiership with a remarkable tally of 21 tries. His outstanding performance earned him the title of coaches' player of the season for the 2022-23 campaign and helped lead Gloucester to the European Challenge Cup final last year.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Carreras stated, "The club is in a really exciting phase, with world-class players, coaches, and the development of a new stadium. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Bath’s head coach, Johann van Graan, highlighted Carreras's role as a pivotal addition to the team, noting, "Santi is a starting Test player, and one of the main reasons for signing him is his versatility along with his game-winning abilities."

The announcement has understandably sparked disappointment among Gloucester supporters, as the club's director of rugby George Skivington acknowledged the emotional impact of Carreras's departure. "Despite our best efforts, Santi has made the decision to take on a new challenge for him and his family, and we of course respect his decision," Skivington commented on the situation.

As Bath prepares for a promising future, the addition of Santi Carreras is expected to bolster their ambitions in the upcoming seasons, bringing skill, experience, and a winning mentality to the squad.
