Ollie Morgan: Balancing Olympic Glory with Academic Pursuits
After an impressive Olympic debut, swimmer Ollie Morgan is set to return to university to complete his studies while eyeing future championships.

Olympic swimmer Ollie Morgan is making headlines for his dual commitment to sport and education. After a remarkable stint at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he showcased his skills by finishing 4th with Team GB in the men's 4x100m medley relay and placing 8th in the 100m backstroke final, Morgan is set to return to the University of Birmingham this September to complete his final year of studies.
Growing up in Bishops Castle, Shropshire, Ollie has always embraced the challenges of both the pool and the classroom. His father, Matt Morgan, shared insights about Ollie's Olympic journey, noting how the university had allowed him to pause his studies during this monumental time. "Once he knew he was definitely going to Paris, the university let him stop his degree until September," Matt remarked during an interview with BBC Radio Shropshire.
As he transitions back to university life, Ollie's focus shifts to the upcoming 2025 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, scheduled for April in London. This event is pivotal, serving as the key selection for the World Aquatics Championships set to take place in Singapore later next year.
Matt Morgan expressed the unique pressure that comes with national championships, stating, "British champs are more nerve-wracking for me than actually going to the Olympics or worlds. Because if you don’t make British champs, you don’t get there."
Reflecting on his son's Olympic experience, Matt highlighted Ollie's passion for high-pressure situations, stating, "The bigger the scene, the more he enjoys it, and that’s what makes a good athlete. If you can cope with the pressure at the big events, that's when you make your name."
It’s also noteworthy that Ollie had the opportunity to meet acclaimed tennis player Andy Murray, who asked the medley relay team for a photograph, a moment Ollie found quite surreal.
As Ollie embarks on this new journey of finishing his education, both he and his family are optimistic about his future in sports and academics, demonstrating that the path to greatness can be paved with both triumphs in the pool and successes in the classroom.
