England Triumphs in Netball Series Despite Final Test Loss
In a gripping finale that showcased the spirit of competitive netball, England faced New Zealand in the last Test of their three-match series in Invercargill. The Roses battled valiantly but ultimately fell short, succumbing to a 61-56 defeat. Despite this setback, England emerged victorious in the series, clinching the coveted Taini Jamison Trophy for the first time since 2021.
The Silver Ferns started strong, jumping to a four-point lead by halftime. Although England managed to narrow the gap during the third quarter, New Zealand regained momentum and held on to their advantage in the critical final moments of the match.
Captain Fran Williams, who leads the Roses, reflected on the significance of their achievement. "Winning the series in the first two Tests was a monumental goal for us, and I am incredibly proud of how our team performed throughout this extensive tour," said Williams, who plays for West Coast Fever in Australia. "This is a pivotal moment for England netball, and we are filled with confidence looking forward."
This series win marks a notable improvement for England, especially coming off a 2-1 series loss in Australia. Williams emphasized the importance of both confidence and belief, saying, "You can talk about feeling good, but it must translate into our performance on the court. I believe we exhibited that in these matches."
As England prepares for their upcoming home matches against Jamaica in Manchester on November 16 and 17, the momentum and morale from this successful series will undoubtedly serve as a driving force.
With a renewed sense of hope and promise, the future looks bright for English netball as they continue to build on this success.
