Kyren Wilson's No-Look Black Shot Costs Historic Record at Shanghai Masters
Kyren Wilson missed a historic century break record at the Shanghai Masters after attempting a no-look shot on the black in a thrilling 6-5 victory over Si Jiahui.

In a dramatic last-16 tie at the Shanghai Masters, Kyren Wilson narrowly defeated Si Jiahui 6-5 but missed out on a historic century break record due to a daring no-look shot on the black. The match, which featured six century breaks, tied the record for the most in a best-of-11 match, previously set by Judd Trump and Neil Robertson in 2016 and Robertson with Mark Selby in 2020.
Wilson, who reached 97 in the deciding frame, chose to attempt a no-look shot on the black, a move that ultimately cost him the chance to break the record. Despite the miss, Wilson defended his decision, stating, 'I did the silly no-look thing. Especially in China, I feel the sport is blowing up out here and a lot of it is about doing things a bit differently. You have to have a bit of fun. The crowd appreciate that sort of thing.'
He added, 'There's no chance I'd have just rolled that black in, even if I knew about the record. It is still about doing things differently. We are stepping into a modern era in snooker.'
Elsewhere in the tournament, defending champion Judd Trump advanced with a commanding 6-2 victory over Neil Robertson, setting up an exciting quarter-final clash. Wilson will now face either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Barry Hawkins in the next round, promising more high-stakes action in this prestigious snooker event.
