Sophie Forsyth Triumphs at Glorious Goodwood: A Day to Remember in Charity Horse Racing
Sophie Forsyth wins the Markel Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood, celebrating the best day of her life while supporting Project Lehar.

Sophie Forsyth, an insurance underwriter, recently experienced what she describes as the "best day" of her life by winning the all-women charity horse race at the Glorious Goodwood festival. Competing against 11 other novice riders, Forsyth emerged victorious in the Markel Magnolia Cup held at Goodwood Racecourse in Chichester, West Sussex.
The Race and Its Significance
The Markel Magnolia Cup is unique in that it features only novice riders, making it a challenging yet inclusive event. This year, the race aimed to raise funds for The King's Trust International's Project Lehar, an initiative providing vocational training and life skills courses for girls and young women from low-income backgrounds in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, India.
A Dream Come True
"It is unbelievable. I have dreamed of this," said Forsyth, who turned 30 in August. She described the race as a test of concentration and endurance, stating, "I was in full concentration from the start, thinking, 'what's the next step, don't do anything wrong'. I'm exhausted now."
The Horse and Trainer
Trainer Ed de Giles, who provided the horse Woodcote Girl for the race, praised Forsyth's performance. "The horse was perfect for it [this race]," he added, noting that Forsyth rode "brilliantly."
Diverse Participants
The race included a diverse group of participants, such as a police officer, an artist, a social media influencer, and Lois Logan, the daughter of TV host Gabby Logan and former rugby player Kenny Logan. Despite being unplaced, Logan described the experience as a "thrill," commending her horse Spirit of Ecstasy for putting up a strong fight.
Community Impact
Since its inception in 2011, the Magnolia Cup has raised over £2.7 million for various charities. This year's proceeds will significantly benefit Project Lehar, continuing the event's tradition of making a positive impact.
Conclusion
The Markel Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood not only highlights the spirit of competition but also underscores the importance of community and charity. Sophie Forsyth's victory is a testament to the dedication and passion that drives participants in this remarkable event.
