Caitlin Clark Shatters Records Again: Rookie Card Sells for $660,000

Caitlin Clark's rookie card sets a new record with a $660,000 sale, doubling the previous women's sports card record.

Caitlin Clark's Rookie Card Achieves Record-Breaking Sale

A 2024 WNBA rookie card featuring Caitlin Clark, signed by the Indiana Fever star herself, has sold for an astonishing $660,000 (£491,116). This sale more than doubles the previous record for women's sports cards. The auction, hosted by memorabilia and trading card company Fanatics Collect, saw extended bidding starting at $336,000 before reaching its final sale price.

Unique Features of the Card

The one-of-one Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Logowoman card is highly distinctive. It includes Clark's signature, inked in blue, and a photo of her mid-dribble with a visible shin injury. This card also features a patch from Clark's Fever uniform, worn during her games, and the words "769 pts and counting," a nod to the record she broke last year for points scored as a rookie.

Clark's Rising Fame

Caitlin Clark has developed a massive following as a once-in-a-generation women's college basketball athlete. Her transition to the WNBA has only amplified her fame. The previous record for the highest-selling women's sports card was also held by Clark, which sold for $366,000 in March.

Financial Impact and Career Highlights

Clark now has 14 cards featuring her that have sold at public auctions for sums that far exceed her estimated season salary of roughly $80,000. Despite being off the court since suffering a groin injury on 15 July, her team has not provided a timeline for her return as the season continues.

The 23-year-old was already a major celebrity athlete when she joined the women's professional league last year. She had won back-to-back NCAA championships with the Iowa Hawkeyes and set the all-time Division I scoring record for both men and women. Clark was drafted as the first overall pick by the Fever in 2024 and was later named rookie of the year.

Record-Breaking Performances

Since joining the team, Clark has set multiple WNBA records, including assists in a single game and in a season. Her impact on the sport continues to grow, making her one of the most talked-about athletes in women's basketball today.
