Kyle Walker-Peters Joins West Ham on Free Transfer: A Strategic Move for the Hammers
West Ham United secures defender Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer, bolstering their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

West Ham United has made a significant addition to their defensive lineup by signing Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer following his departure from Southampton. The 28-year-old full-back, who has earned two caps for England, has committed to a three-year contract with the Hammers.
Graham Potter, West Ham's manager, expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing: "He is a player I've always thought highly of and been impressed by whenever he has faced one of my teams. He has a really good pedigree, a top professional who has established himself as a respected Premier League player and still has his best years in front of him."
Walker-Peters began his career at Tottenham Hotspur and moved to Southampton on loan in January 2020, making the transfer permanent that summer. During his time with Southampton, he made 202 appearances but left after the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.
The defender was close to joining Besiktas, but the Turkish club withdrew their interest after Walker-Peters delayed his medical due to West Ham's approach. "I spoke to Graham Potter, and he was a big, big part of me making the decision," Walker-Peters revealed. "I've always liked his style as a coach, and I think it will suit me well. Every team wants to win trophies, and West Ham have that ambition. From speaking to Graham, he wants to create something special, and hopefully, I can be a part of that."
This summer, West Ham has been active in the transfer market, signing El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague for £19 million and making Jean-Clair Todibo's loan move from Nice permanent. They have also sold winger Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham for £55 million.
With these strategic moves, West Ham is positioning itself as a strong contender in the upcoming Premier League season, aiming to build on their previous successes and compete for top honors.
