Historic Victory: Simon Yates Triumphs on Bastille Day as Ben Healy Claims Yellow Jersey
Simon Yates secures a dramatic win on Bastille Day at Tour de France Stage 10, while Ben Healy makes history by claiming the yellow jersey.

Stage 10 of the Tour de France 2025 delivered a thrilling spectacle as Britain's Simon Yates clinched victory on Bastille Day, marking his first stage win since 2019. The 165.3km route from Ennezat to Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy tested riders with eight categorised climbs through the Massif Central, culminating in a dramatic finale.
Yates, part of a 28-rider breakaway, timed his attack perfectly on the final ascent, pulling clear of rivals including Thymen Arensman, Ben Healy, and Ben O'Connor. "It was a really hard start with a lot of strong guys, but I took advantage just before the final climb," Yates said. "It's been a long time since I had such an opportunity, and I grabbed it with both hands."
Ben Healy's Historic Achievement
While Yates celebrated his stage win, Ireland's Ben Healy made headlines by claiming the yellow jersey, becoming the first Irish rider to do so since Stephen Roche in 1987. Healy, who finished third in the stage, now leads the general classification by 29 seconds ahead of defending champion Tadej Pogacar. "It was insanely tough, but I had to dig deep," Healy said. "My teammates worked incredibly hard for me, and I wanted to repay them by taking this opportunity."
Race Dynamics and Standings
The stage saw intense competition among GC contenders. Pogacar accelerated in the closing kilometres, gaining six seconds on Remco Evenepoel, who now sits third overall. Jonas Vingegaard, fourth in the standings, remains a strong contender, trailing Healy by 1 minute and 46 seconds.
Looking Ahead
After a rest day, the Tour resumes with Stage 11, a 156.8km route around Toulouse expected to end in a bunch sprint. The first major Pyrenees challenge arrives on Thursday with a climb to the Hautacam ski resort, promising more drama in this year's race.
