Francisco Rodriguez Jr Faces Anti-Doping Scrutiny After Victory Over Galal Yafai
Francisco Rodriguez Jr is under investigation for an adverse doping finding following his win over Galal Yafai, casting doubt on the bout's outcome.

Francisco Rodriguez Jr is now at the center of an anti-doping investigation after his surprising victory over British flyweight Galal Yafai, as reported by Matchroom Boxing. The promoters of Yafai have been informed that Rodriguez returned an adverse analytical finding from a post-fight night anti-doping test conducted after their match in Birmingham last month.
Rodriguez, aged 31, managed to drop the Olympic gold medallist in the final round, securing a decisive win with scores of 119-108, 119-108, and 118-109. This bout marked Yafai's first professional defeat, leading to the loss of his WBC interim title. However, the validity of the match's outcome is now under scrutiny.
In a statement, Matchroom Boxing revealed, "Today the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association informed Matchroom, the World Boxing Council, and the British Boxing Board of Control that Francisco Rodriguez has returned an adverse analytical finding as part of a post-fight night anti-doping test following his bout with Galal Yafai on June 21, 2025." The investigation will be managed by the BBBofC and the WBC.
This defeat was Yafai's first in ten professional fights, while Rodriguez boasts a record of 39 professional wins, six losses, one draw, and a no contest. BBC Sport has reached out to the BBBofC and Vada for further comments on the matter.
