Nick Greenwood Selected for Jersey's T20 World Cup Qualifiers Despite Legal Troubles
Jersey Cricket selects Nick Greenwood for T20 World Cup qualifiers despite his recent legal issues, emphasizing cricketing merit and team spirit.

Jersey's Decision on Nick Greenwood
Jersey Cricket has made a bold decision by selecting Nick Greenwood for their T20 World Cup qualifiers, despite the all-rounder admitting to drink-related driving charges. Greenwood, 25, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen, driving without insurance, and failing to comply with traffic directions. The incident occurred on July 8, following Jersey's victory over Guernsey in their inter-island T20 series at Grainville.
Legal Proceedings and Cricket Merit
The court has adjourned sentencing until July 29, imposing an interim driving ban on Greenwood. Jersey Cricket has clarified that they are not funding any of Greenwood's legal costs. Sarah Gomersall, Chief Executive of the Jersey Cricket Board, stated, "We acknowledge the seriousness of the situation and are disappointed that it has arisen. However, our selection is based solely on cricketing merit, following precedents set by other international cricketing bodies."
Greenwood's Cricket Career
Greenwood, one of Jersey's two full-time professional cricketers, has an impressive record. He has scored 900 runs in 18 first-class games for Wellington and has made 34 T20 appearances for Jersey since his debut in 2019, amassing 936 runs. His performance in the recent series against Guernsey, including a top score of 45, highlights his value to the team.
Jersey's Squad and Ambitions
The Jersey squad also includes Glamorgan's Asa Tribe, who has been in excellent form. Tribe scored his maiden first-class century against Leicestershire and played a crucial role in Glamorgan's T20 Blast victory over Gloucestershire. The experienced Jersey squad, with 12 of the 15 members having competed at the same stage two years ago, is set to face the Netherlands, Scotland, Italy, and Guernsey in the qualifiers.
Aiming for the World Cup
Paul Hutchison, Jersey's Director of Cricket, expressed the team's ambitions: "This is an excellent opportunity for us to test ourselves against some of the best teams in Europe. A place at the World Cup would be a milestone moment for Jersey Cricket. We know it won't come easy, but we're ready for the challenge."
