Wright Predicts Humphries and Littler Won't Click at Darts World Cup
Peter Wright predicts Luke Humphries and Luke Littler won't click at the Darts World Cup, despite being favorites. Wright and Gary Anderson aim to surprise.

Scotland's Peter Wright has cast doubt on the partnership of Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, predicting they "won't click" at the Darts World Cup in Frankfurt. Despite being overwhelming favorites to defend the title for England, Wright believes the high-profile duo may struggle to find synergy.
Humphries, the world number one, and Littler, the 2025 world champion, are making their debut as a pair at the event. However, Wright, who will represent Scotland alongside Gary Anderson, remains unconvinced of their ability to dominate.
"Look at the amount of really good England teams that have been paired up and they haven't clicked, like James Wade and Phil Taylor," Wright told BBC Sport Scotland. "Littler is a fantastic player, a worthy world champion and all the other titles he has won, fantastic, but he is going up there playing pairs."
Wright also suggested that Littler, 18, should have offered to give up his place to allow Michael Smith—who has dropped to 20th in the PDC order of merit—to defend the title he won with Humphries last year. "I think Michael should have been given the chance to retain his title," Wright added. "Gary stepped aside when me and John Henderson won it to give us a chance to do it again."
Despite their lower rankings (13th and 14th respectively), Wright and Anderson are confident in their experience and past success. "The amount of titles that Gary has won, the amount of titles I have won, we have got the experience," Wright said. "When we get up there as a pair we always do well."
The Darts World Cup pairs the highest-ranked players from each nation, with Wright and Anderson having won the event in 2019 and finishing as runners-up three times. Wright also secured victory in 2021 with Henderson.
As the tournament approaches, all eyes will be on whether Humphries and Littler can prove Wright wrong or if the seasoned Scots can once again rise to the occasion.
