Kagiso Rabada Makes History: Joins Exclusive Lord's Club with Stellar Performance
Kagiso Rabada joins an elite Lord's club with a five-wicket haul in the World Test Championship final, marking a historic moment in cricket.

South Africa's fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has etched his name into cricket history by joining an exclusive club at Lord's. During the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Rabada achieved a remarkable five-wicket haul, a feat that places him alongside legendary West Indies opener Gordon Greenidge.
The Prestigious Lord's Honours Board
Any player who takes five wickets or scores a century in a Test match at Lord's has their name inscribed on the honours board in gold lettering. Before Rabada's performance, only Greenidge had appeared on both the home and away dressing room boards. Greenidge's notable innings included 214 not out and 103 against England in 1984 and 1988, respectively, and a 122 for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against the Rest of the World in 1987.
Rabada's Stellar Performance
With South Africa allocated the home dressing room for the WTC final, Rabada's figures of 5-51 secured his place on the honours board. A piece of sticky batting tape with his name written in pen was temporarily attached to the board, with the gold lettering to follow soon. This achievement is particularly significant as neutral Tests at Lord's have not been included on the honours board since its refurbishment in 2018.
Insights from Stuart Broad
Rabada's success may have been bolstered by insights from former England bowler Stuart Broad, who is also on the honours board for both batting and bowling. Broad, who took 113 wickets at Lord's, provided valuable advice on field placements and conditions, which Rabada acknowledged as beneficial.
A Redemption Story
Rabada's performance also marked a personal redemption. The 30-year-old fast bowler had recently served a short ban for recreational drug use. Despite this setback, Rabada has consistently delivered his best for South Africa, moving up to fourth on the country's all-time Test wicket-takers list with 332 victims.
The Future of Rabada's Career
Rabada expressed his pride in being inspired by South African cricket legends like Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock, and Dale Steyn. His ambition to continue performing at the highest level remains undiminished, promising more thrilling moments for cricket fans worldwide.
