Visa Delays Hinder Windies Stars Hosein and Goolie from UK Cricket Tour
West Indies players Akeal Hosein and Jyd Goolie face visa delays, preventing their participation in the UK cricket matches against England and Ireland.

West Indies' key players, spinner Akeal Hosein and batter Jyd Goolie, are currently stranded in Trinidad due to visa complications, impacting their participation in the upcoming cricket series against England and Ireland. The issue stems from updated UK entry requirements for Trinidad and Tobago citizens, effective since April 23, 2025.
Akeal Hosein, ranked second globally in T20 bowling, was scheduled to play in the first T20 match against England at Chester-le-Street this Friday. However, due to his recent commitments in the Pakistan Super League, Hosein couldn't attend the mandatory in-person visa appointment in time. His passport remains with the authorities, making his participation in the England series unlikely.
Jyd Goolie, an uncapped player, was added to the squad for the T20 series against Ireland following Roston Chase's appointment as West Indies Test captain. Chase is preparing for a Test series against Australia, hence his absence from the Ireland matches.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has been proactive in addressing these visa challenges. "As soon as the updated visa requirements were announced, CWI began the necessary application processes," stated Miles Bascombe, CWI's director of cricket. Despite efforts to expedite the process and apply for a visa waiver for Goolie, the final decision rests with UK immigration authorities.
CWI remains hopeful for a resolution in the coming days, potentially allowing Hosein to join the squad for the remaining matches. The UK Home Office has been approached for further comments on this matter.
This incident echoes past visa issues in cricket, such as when England's spinner Shoaib Bashir missed a Test in India due to similar problems. The cricket community eagerly awaits a swift resolution to ensure the full participation of all players in this exciting series.
