Cardiff Rugby has announced the contract extensions of two pivotal players, flanker Dan Thomas and prop Danny Southworth, as the club continues to build towards a competitive future in the United Rugby Championship (URC) and other major tournaments.

Dan Thomas, who joined Cardiff from the Bristol Bears last summer, has quickly become a key figure in the team. The 31-year-old open-side flanker has made 11 appearances this season, showcasing his versatility and leadership on the field. Reflecting on his time at Cardiff, Thomas said, "I've enjoyed the challenge at the club, not only in terms of the URC, and the variety of teams, styles, and travel, but around squad selection and the quality we have. I feel I have been given the freedom to show what I can bring to this team and that is thanks to the players and coaches accepting me from the off."

On the other hand, Danny Southworth, who recently celebrated his 26th birthday, has committed to a long-term deal with Cardiff. The loose-head prop moved from the Exeter Chiefs last summer and has since embraced life in the Welsh capital. Southworth expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I was welcomed into the group from day one and I'm loving living in Cardiff, it's a brilliant city. The Arms Park is also special. I believe we can achieve something special together."

Both players have been instrumental in Cardiff's recent performances, and their contract extensions signal the club's intent to remain competitive in the URC and other competitions. While the exact duration of the contracts has not been disclosed, the signings come at a crucial time for Cardiff Rugby, which was taken over by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in April following financial difficulties.
