Lloyd Tennant Appointed as Ireland Women's Cricket Head Coach: A New Era Begins

Lloyd Tennant is set to lead Ireland's women's cricket team as head coach, bringing 30 years of experience to the role starting June 1.

Lloyd Tennant has been officially named the new head coach of Ireland's women's cricket team, marking a significant step forward for the squad. With a rich coaching background spanning 30 years, Tennant brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. His previous stints include working with England's Female Academy and A Team, as well as serving as assistant coach at Manchester Originals and managing women and girls' talent at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

A Legacy of Excellence

Tennant, a former professional player for Leicestershire and Essex, is set to take over from Ed Joyce, who announced his departure in February. Joyce's tenure concluded with the ICC Women's World Cup qualifiers in April, where Ireland narrowly missed out on securing a spot in the tournament.

A New Chapter for Ireland Women's Cricket

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Tennant said, "I'm very excited about this new role - it's such a great time to be involved in women's cricket, given its rapid development around the world. This Ireland Women's squad has moved forward enormously under the guidance of Ed Joyce, and I would like to continue his great work, supporting this squad as it continues to grow. To be honest, I can't wait to get started."

High Hopes from Cricket Ireland

Graeme West, Cricket Ireland's director of high performance, praised Tennant as an "outstanding candidate". West highlighted Tennant's ability to harness potential and sustain players' progress, stating, "He brings an abundance of expertise and knowledge, with the additional capacity to educate, that I am confident will advance the players and staff he leads. We believe Lloyd is the perfect fit for the current national squad that has an abundance of young talent."

Looking Ahead

With Tennant at the helm, the Ireland women's cricket team is poised for a new era of growth and success. His appointment underscores Cricket Ireland's commitment to nurturing and developing the next generation of cricket stars.
