Pope Francis Remembered in 2025 Giro d'Italia

The late Pope Francis will be remembered at the 2025 Giro d'Italia.

The late Pope Francis, who passed away on 21 April, will be commemorated with a neutralised start in Vatican City on the final stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia. Riders will traverse Vatican City in Rome on 1 June before the official beginning of the final stage, which commences in Albania on 9 May. This marks the third consecutive time the Giro concludes in Rome, but only the seventh time in 108 editions of the race. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri stated that this presence is rejuvenated this year with an electrifying symbolic start from Vatican City, a tribute to Pope Francis, his personality, and his message of hope in the Jubilee year. The 21st stage of this year's race will encompass eight loops of a 9.5 km circuit on the streets of Rome. The Giro has previously passed through Vatican City on two occasions.
