Three judges typically determine the outcome of a boxing contest if the fight hasn't ended in a stoppage. The scoring is subjective and often leads to differences in scorecards, causing plenty of controversy. Judges use the 10-point system to decide the 'winner' of each round. Ten points are awarded to the more successful fighter, and nine to the opponent. Knocked downs, standing counts, fouls, and dominant performances can all affect the points. If both fighters are knocked down or neither is a clear winner, special rules apply. At the final bell, the scores of each round are added up to determine the winner. Common outcomes include unanimous decision, split decision, majority decision, draw, and majority draw.
