Kevin De Bruyne Expresses Surprise Over Manchester City Contract Decision
Kevin De Bruyne shares his surprise at not receiving a new contract offer from Manchester City, reflecting on his future and contributions to the club.

Departing Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne has expressed his surprise at not being offered a new contract by the club. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder, who announced his departure earlier this month, revealed that he had not received any contract offers throughout the year.
"I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision," De Bruyne stated. "Obviously, I was a bit surprised, but I just have to accept it. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I'm showing, but I understand clubs have to make decisions."
De Bruyne joined Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015 and has since become one of the club's most influential players, scoring 106 goals in 413 appearances. During his tenure, he has won 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.
Despite his success, De Bruyne's recent seasons have been marred by injuries. He missed almost five months of last season, playing just 26 games in all competitions, and has started only 19 matches this term. His departure marks the end of an era for City, with manager Pep Guardiola admitting it was not an easy decision to part ways with the midfielder.
De Bruyne has not ruled out staying in the Premier League but has also been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in the United States. "I feel like I still have a lot to give," he added. "I'm open for anything. I have to look at the whole picture—sporting, family, everything together—what makes the most sense for me and my family."
As Manchester City continues their campaign, they face crucial matches against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-finals. De Bruyne's departure leaves a significant void in the squad, but his legacy at the club remains untarnished.
