Medvedev's Grueling Victory over Khachanov in Monte Carlo

Daniil Medvedev overcame cramp to defeat Karen Khachanov in a tough Monte Carlo match.

Daniil Medvedev had a challenging first-round match at the Monte Carlo Masters. He battled cramp and it took him nearly three hours to prevail against compatriot Karen Khachanov with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. The match saw 17 breaks of serve and a total of 36 break points. Medvedev, who has struggled this season and doesn't like playing on clay, will face Alexandre Muller in the next round.

Medvedev has not won a title since 2023 and has frequently expressed his dislike for clay courts. Despite the difficulties, he was happy with his performance and is looking forward.

Seventeen of the top 20 men's singles players are participating in Monte Carlo, including Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
