The 24-year-old, who joined Essex from Kent ahead of the 2024 season, suffered the injury just three days before his potential Test debut in New Zealand last November.

Cox described the injury as "one of the toughest moments" of his career, with the fracture proving more complicated than initially expected. Medical specialists advised against surgery due to the risk of permanent mobility loss, leaving natural healing as the preferred option.

Batting Over Keeping: Cox emphasized that while he could technically keep wickets if absolutely necessary, repeated impacts in red-ball cricket may hinder his recovery.

Despite an appendix operation disrupting his 2023 season, Cox amassed an impressive 918 County Championship runs in 11 matches, including four centuries. Now fully fit, he has set a personal target of 1,000+ runs this season while aiming to reclaim his spot in the England squad.

"I was absolutely devastated (by the injury), but Essex has been phenomenal in supporting me. My goal is to start strong and help us compete for the championship," Cox told BBC Essex Sport.
