Neah Evans Aims for Gold at Glasgow Commonwealth Games: A Legacy of Inspiration
Neah Evans, a two-time Olympic silver medallist, aims for gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, inspired by the 2014 event that sparked her cycling career.

Neah Evans, a 34-year-old cycling sensation, is setting her sights on gold at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games. With a career adorned with medals from World, European, and Commonwealth competitions, Evans is no stranger to the podium. Her journey, however, began with the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, an event that left an indelible mark on her career.
Evans, who didn't take up cycling full-time until 2017, credits the 2014 Games for her introduction to track cycling. "I would never have got into track cycling if it hadn't been for the Commonwealth Games in 2014," she said. The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, built for the event, was where Evans first experienced track cycling, a moment that would shape her future.
Her achievements since then are nothing short of remarkable. Evans secured silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the women's team pursuit and repeated the feat four years later in the women's madison alongside Elinor Barker. Now, she is determined to add a Commonwealth gold to her collection.
"To go back and race it 12 years later, it would be absolutely incredible to come away with a gold medal," Evans shared. She acknowledges the fierce competition but remains focused on this major target for the next season.
In the meantime, Evans is shifting her focus to road racing, a move she describes as a "no-lose situation." Riding for the Handsling Alba Development Team, she aims to explore new challenges and keep her career fresh. "It made perfect sense to challenge myself and really focus on the road, which I have never actually done," she explained.
Evans' versatility and determination continue to inspire, as she balances her ambitions on both the track and the road. Her story is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Commonwealth Games and the power of inspiration in sports.
