With Sale Sharks and a European Champions Cup tie against Clermont looming, Dowson acknowledged the importance of momentum: "Our backs are against the wall. We’ve a point to prove, and we’ll fight for every inch."

The Saints have showcased their depth this season, with Henry Pollock and Curtis Langdon stepping up as Six Nations cover.
