Exeter Chiefs Secure Star South African Hooker Joseph Dweba for 2025-26 Season

Exeter Chiefs have signed South African hooker Joseph Dweba for the 2025-26 season, adding international experience and depth to their squad.

Exeter Chiefs have made a significant addition to their squad by signing South African front row Joseph Dweba for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The 29-year-old hooker, who has six senior caps for the Springboks, joins from the DHL Stormers, where he has been a key player since 2022.

A New Chapter for Dweba

"I'm looking forward to becoming an Exeter Chief," Dweba said. "I signed for the club because I believe it gives me the chance to be a part of something special that is about to happen in the coming seasons." Dweba's move to Exeter marks a new chapter in his career, bringing his experience from both the South African and French rugby scenes, where he previously played for Bordeaux Begles.

Rob Baxter's Excitement

Director of Rugby Rob Baxter expressed his delight at the signing, stating, "We're absolutely delighted to have completed the signing of Joseph for Exeter Chiefs on a long-term contract. We really feel he is a player who will add a lot to the team, both at set piece and in his work around the field."

Baxter highlighted Dweba's international pedigree and his potential to become a fan-favourite, adding, "He's a proven international and a proven high-level rugby player. I think he's one of those guys who can really become a fan-favourite here. He's got a great personality, a bit of a larger-than-life type character. I think the quality of his play, the pivotal role he plays and his presence around the club will all be hugely positive for us."

A Boost for Exeter Chiefs

Dweba's signing is seen as a major boost for Exeter Chiefs as they aim to strengthen their squad for the future. His experience and skill set are expected to play a crucial role in the team's success in the coming seasons. With his proven track record and the support of the Exeter Chiefs' coaching staff, Dweba is poised to make a significant impact both on and off the field.
