UK Athletics Denies Manslaughter Charges in Paralympian's Tragic Death

UK Athletics and its former head deny manslaughter charges after a Paralympian's death.

UK Athletics (UKA) and its former head of sport have pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter following the death of Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. Hayayei, 36, died on 11 July 2017 when a metal cage fell on him during training. The shot put cage he was using was allegedly erected without its base structure. UKA was accused of routinely supplying faulty equipment. The next hearing is on 12 December 2025, and the trial is scheduled for 12 October 2026.
