Jessica Pegula Showcases Sportsmanship: Private Jet Flight for Austin Finalists to Indian Wells
Jessica Pegula demonstrates unmatched generosity by flying Austin finalists to Indian Wells on her private jet, highlighting the spirit of tennis sportsmanship.

After an intense competition at the ATX Open in Austin, finalists McCartney Kessler, Zhang Shuai, Yue Yuan, and Anna Blinkova found themselves in a race against time to reach their next tournament in Indian Wells. The logistical nightmare of navigating through multiple airports with potential stopovers in Los Angeles, Dallas, or Houston posed a significant challenge. However, Jessica Pegula, the American tennis star and singles champion of the ATX Open, offered a solution that was nothing short of extraordinary.
Pegula, who had just secured her victory against compatriot McCartney Kessler with a score of 7–5 6–2, extended an extraordinary gesture of sportsmanship by offering her private jet to her fellow competitors. This generous act ensured that all four players could bypass the usual travel hassles and arrive in California comfortably and on time for the Indian Wells tournament, which was scheduled to begin just days later on Wednesday.
What makes Pegula's gesture even more commendable is her decision to wait until after the doubles final to ensure that everyone could be accommodated. The doubles match, which saw Yue Yuan and Anna Blinkova triumph over McCartney Kessler and Zhang Shuai with scores of 3-6, 6-1, 10-4, concluded late into the evening. Despite this, Pegula remained steadfast in her commitment to assist her peers.
“She could have left right after her singles final, but she is such a selfless and generous girl,” Zhang Shuai expressed on her Instagram, highlighting the magnanimity of Pegula's actions. Further commendations came from Anna Blinkova and Yue Yuan, who also took to Instagram to express their gratitude towards the 31-year-old tennis star. Pegula, whose parents own the NFL's Buffalo Bills and the NHL's Buffalo Sabres, is no stranger to acts of kindness and philanthropy.
As the players prepare for their next challenges at Indian Wells, McCartney Kessler is set to face Anna Blinkova in the first round, while Yue Yuan will compete against Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine. On the other hand, Pegula, seeded fourth, will enjoy a first-round bye, giving her more time to prepare for the upcoming matches. Zhang Shuai will be participating in the doubles event later in the tournament.
The tennis community continues to praise Pegula not just for her achievements on the court but also for her unwavering support and camaraderie towards her fellow athletes. Her actions serve as a powerful reminder of the values that make sports truly exceptional.
