Sergio Garcia's LIV Golf Triumph: A Gateway to Ryder Cup Glory
Sergio Garcia clinches the LIV Golf Hong Kong title, eyeing a spot in the European Ryder Cup team under captain Luke Donald.

Sergio Garcia, the Spanish golf maestro, recently showcased his enduring skill by winning the LIV Golf Hong Kong, a victory that might just pave his way to the 2025 Ryder Cup. With a stunning final round of seven-under-par 63, Garcia finished at 18 under, three strokes clear of his closest competitor, South Africa's Dean Burmester. This triumph marks Garcia's second LIV title, adding to his victory at the LIV Golf Andalucia last year.
Garcia, who is no stranger to the pressures of high-stakes golf, rejoined the DP World Tour in November after settling fines related to his initial departure to the LIV Golf series, a move aimed at regaining his eligibility for the Ryder Cup.
The 45-year-old, who holds the record for the most points scored in Ryder Cup history, is eager to equal the European record of 11 appearances set by Lee Westwood and Sir Nick Faldo. His recent performance in Hong Kong, which began with him tied at the top with England’s Paul Casey and American Peter Uihlein, exemplified his commitment to excellence. Highlights included an eagle on the par-five third and a streak of four consecutive birdies from the eighth to the 11th hole.
Garcia has been in discussions with European team captain Luke Donald, who has been monitoring his progress closely. As LIV Golf events do not carry world ranking points, Garcia would need to rely on a wildcard pick to secure his spot in the Ryder Cup, set to take place at Bethpage Black from September 26-28, 2025.
With 16 European tour titles and 11 PGA Tour victories under his belt, Garcia remains a formidable force in golf. His dedication to the sport and the European team is unwavering, as he aims to contribute once again to the prestigious biennial competition.
