Jose Mourinho Faces Four-Match Ban Over Controversial Remarks in Istanbul Derby
Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban and fined £35,194 for controversial comments following the Istanbul derby.

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been banned for four games and fined a total of £35,194 for comments made after Monday's clash with local rivals Galatasaray. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced the sanctions on Thursday, citing two separate disciplinary matters.
The first offense involved 'derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee', while the second was for 'accusing Turkish football of chaos and disorder'. Mourinho, 62, had criticized Turkish referees during his post-match press conference, stating that 'if you were a referee, this match would be a disaster'.
The TFF also highlighted that Mourinho’s remarks during the press conference were 'contrary to the ethics of sports and the concept of fair play'. His comments reportedly included references to 'the big dive in the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys', which the TFF deemed 'divisive and separatist in society'.
As a result, the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham boss has been banned from the dressing room and dugout for two games and fined 117,000 Turkish lira (£2,543). He also received another two-match ban for 'an act against sportsmanship' during his post-match news conference and was fined an additional £32,651.
Fenerbahce officials have confirmed that the club will appeal the penalties imposed on Mourinho. The incident has sparked a heated debate in Turkish football, with many questioning the handling of the situation by both the TFF and Mourinho himself.
This incident adds to the ongoing drama surrounding Mourinho’s tenure at Fenerbahce, where he was appointed manager in June. The Portuguese coach has a history of controversial comments and confrontations with officials, and this latest episode is unlikely to help his reputation in Turkey.
