Alice Hopkins expressed her elation after clinching the gold medal in the long jump at the British Indoor Athletics Championships. The 26-year-old athlete from the Oxford City Athletic Club achieved a personal best of 6.59 meters in Birmingham, marking her first indoor gold medal.
"It feels amazing to be British indoor champion," Hopkins shared with BBC Radio Oxford. "This was one of my season goals, especially after earning the silver outdoors last year. I aimed to elevate my performance, and I'm thrilled to have achieved it. This also places me 11th in the all-time indoor rankings, which is a fantastic bonus."
Hopkins, who has experience in heptathlon events, is now setting her sights on further success in the approaching outdoor season. "I'm eagerly looking forward to it and am determined to secure the gold. My focus is on the World Outdoor Championships in Tokyo this September," she stated. "Achieving my personal best here significantly boosts my confidence for the outdoor season and makes my future goals seem well within reach."
Another notable performance came from Jade O’Dowda, 24, from Oxfordshire, who secured a silver medal in the long jump on the same day.
