Cameron Green Joins Gloucestershire for 2024 County Championship

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green signs with Gloucestershire for a short-term deal to play in the 2024 County Championship season.

Green Brings International Pedigree to Gloucestershire

Australia's rising star Cameron Green has officially signed a short-term deal with Gloucestershire Cricket Club for the 2024 season. The 25-year-old all-rounder will join the English county side for five Championship matches, beginning with their clash against Kent on 18 April and concluding with the Northamptonshire fixture in late May.

Impressive Track Record

Green boasts an impressive Test career, having represented Australia in 28 matches with a batting average of 36.23 and 35 wickets at an average of 35.31. His standout performance includes a career-best score of 174 not out against New Zealand in 2023, solidifying his reputation as one of the most promising talents in international cricket.

Preparing for the World Test Championship

Green's stint with Gloucestershire serves as crucial preparation for Australia's World Test Championship Final against South Africa, scheduled to commence on 11 June at Lord's. Having recovered from a lower back injury that sidelined him since September, Green is expected to regain his form as a key batter before joining the squad.

Gloucestershire's Ambitions

Gloucestershire's head coach, Mark Alleyne, expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, stating, "Cameron Green's ability is unquestionable, and he is clearly first-class. Having someone of his caliber, who operates in key positions for the best Test team in the world, is a tremendous boost for our team."

Alleyne further emphasized the club's aspirations, adding, "We have serious ambitions in all formats in 2025, and Cameron's signing reinforces this sentiment."

A Thrilling Season Ahead

The 2024 County Championship promises to be an exciting season for Gloucestershire, with Green teaming up with fellow Australian Cameron Bancroft, who will captain the side in red-ball cricket. Gloucestershire kicks off their campaign on 4 April with an away match against Derbyshire.

Key Dates

  • 4 April: Gloucestershire vs Derbyshire (Season Opener)
  • 18 April: Gloucestershire vs Kent (Green's Debut)
  • Late May: Gloucestershire vs Northamptonshire (Green's Final Match)

This partnership not only strengthens Gloucestershire's lineup but also provides fans with the opportunity to witness one of cricket's brightest stars in action on English soil.
