Louis Rees-Zammit's NFL Dream Continues: Re-Signs with Jacksonville Jaguars as Wide Receiver
Former Wales rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit re-signs with Jacksonville Jaguars, aiming to secure a place in the NFL after transitioning from rugby union.

Former Wales rugby sensation Louis Rees-Zammit has taken another step toward his NFL dream by re-signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a wide receiver. This move allows the 24-year-old to continue his ambitious journey from rugby union to American football, a transition he began in January 2024 after leaving Wales and Gloucester.
Rees-Zammit will be competing among 90 players for a spot in the Jaguars' 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season, which kicks off in September. Additionally, due to the NFL's International Player Programme rules, he can remain a part of their practice squad. The programme also allows him to be promoted twice to the active roster during the season without the Jaguars losing one of their regular players.
In January 2024, Rees-Zammit made headlines when he announced his decision to leave rugby union and enter the NFL's International Player Pathway, a rigorous 10-week programme designed to train and evaluate aspiring players. Initially signed to the Kansas City Chiefs for pre-season training, he moved to Jacksonville in August 2023 and will now continue his development with the Jaguars.
Despite his rugby success—scoring 14 tries in 32 games for Wales—Rees-Zammit has yet to make his NFL debut. However, he has gained valuable experience, playing in three pre-season games for the Chiefs and witnessing their playoff run firsthand.
Rees-Zammit's journey is not just a personal ambition but also a significant moment for international athletes aiming to break into the NFL. His perseverance and talent could pave the way for more rugby players to transition to American football in the future.
As the NFL season approaches, all eyes will be on Rees-Zammit to see if he can secure his place on the Jaguars' roster and make his mark in the league.
