Michael Wimmer Takes Helm at Motherwell: A New Era Begins
Michael Wimmer, the former Austria Vienna manager, has been appointed as the new head coach of Motherwell, bringing fresh hope for the Scottish Premiership team.

In a significant move for the Scottish Premiership, Motherwell FC has officially announced the appointment of Michael Wimmer as their new manager. The German tactician, known for his stints at Austria Vienna and as an assistant at Stuttgart and Augsburg, steps in following the departure of Stuart Kettlewell, who left amidst personal challenges tied to team performance.
Wimmer, 44, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to Fir Park. His coaching journey began in earnest in 2010 with Nuremberg, and he later made his mark at Augsburg. In 2022, he had an interim stint with Stuttgart, where he managed to win four out of eight games. His tenure at Austria Vienna was also notable, with 27 wins from 61 matches, although his departure was followed by the team finishing eighth in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for Motherwell, who currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership. The team is looking to bounce back from a recent 3-0 home defeat by Ross County, which followed losses to Celtic under the caretaker management of Stephen Frail.
With Wimmer's strategic acumen and previous successes, Motherwell fans can look forward to a revitalized approach to both domestic and potential European campaigns. His first challenge will be to stabilize the team and aim for a top-half finish in the league, which would be a significant turnaround from their current position.
