Amanda Anisimova Triumphs at Qatar Open: A Career-Defining Victory
Amanda Anisimova secures her biggest career title at the Qatar Open, defeating Jelena Ostapenko in a thrilling final match.

Amanda Anisimova claimed the most significant title of her career by defeating former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko at the Qatar Open. The American triumphed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the WTA 1000 event in Doha, marking her first title since January 2022.
Anisimova's victory is a testament to her resilience and determination, following an eight-month hiatus due to mental health struggles. She has openly discussed the challenges of burnout, which led her to step away from the sport in May 2023. Despite dropping outside the top 400, her impressive comeback has propelled her into the top 20 for the first time in her career.
"There's been a lot of hard work, a lot of tears, and a lot of good moments," Anisimova, 23, said after the match. "With tennis, you experience it all, but that's also why I love it."
The final was marked by intense competition and two rain interruptions. After trading breaks in the first set, Anisimova maintained her composure to take the lead. Ostapenko, who had previously dominated world number one Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals, missed crucial break points in the second set, leading to her frustration. Despite a brief resurgence, she couldn't sustain the momentum after another rain delay.
Anisimova's exceptional return game ultimately sealed her victory, closing out the match with a powerful backhand winner on her second championship point.
