Marist Red Foxes Unveil Retro '87 Uniforms as They Aim for NCAA Glory

The Marist Red Foxes have been the talk of the mid-major college basketball scene this season, boasting an impressive 9-1 record in the MAAC and currently sitting atop the conference standings. As the regular season progresses and the stakes rise, the team has decided to look back at its glorious past for inspiration.

On February 3, 2025, the Red Foxes unveiled their “Marist 87s”, a throwback uniform designed to commemorate one of the program’s most successful eras. The 1986-87 squad finished with a remarkable 15-1 record in conference play, marking their journey to the NCAA tournament.

A Nod to History

Reflecting on history, J.J. Post reported the unveiling featuring a fresh but nostalgic look. The new uniforms are a replica of what the 1987 team wore, showcasing a minimalist design that retains the familiar red-and-white colors of the current uniforms. The standout features include an arched nameplate across the front and a vintage block “M” logo emblazoned on the shorts. In another twist that enhances the retro vibe, the back of the jerseys will omit player names, allowing the number to take center stage.

“I think it's a really cool opportunity to look back in the history of Marist with these uniforms as we're moving into a new section of the school's history with the change to a university,” said senior center Jackson Price during the release. Marist officially transitioned from a college to a university on January 29, 2025.

Aiming for Greatness

The Red Foxes’ nine-game winning streak earlier in the season was the longest the program has seen since the 1986-87 campaign, suggesting a historic alignment with the past. On February 8, Marist will don these nostalgic jerseys as they host the Iona Gaels at McCann Arena, with hopes of replicating their predecessors' success and clinching a spot in the NCAA tournament once again.
