Titans Eye Bright Future with QB Prospects: Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward
The Tennessee Titans analyze top quarterback prospects, aiming to secure their future under center with Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.

Tennessee Titans GM Mike Borgonzi and Coach Brian Callahan are on a mission to find their future franchise quarterback, exploring prospects that could transform their offensive landscape.
In an insightful meeting last week during the East-West Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas, around eight members of the Titans' management listened intently as 22-year-old Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders shared his thoughts and aspirations. This meeting marks the beginning of numerous discussions regarding his potential to be the face of the franchise.
With Brian Callahan and newly appointed general manager Mike Borgonzi present, as well as president of football operations Chad Brinker, the Titans leadership is embarking on a critical journey. Borgonzi, who was just hired as the Titans' 16th general manager, is diving headfirst into the quarterback search alongside Callahan, who has been noted for his strategic mind and detailed evaluations during his coaching career.
“Callahan is very smart and detailed,” Borgonzi told ESPN. “He’s been around some pretty good ones – Peyton Manning, Joe Burrow, and Matthew Stafford. Knowing what to look for in terms of footwork and playmaking is crucial.”
The unique partnership between Borgonzi and Callahan has the potential for greatness, both having significantly impacted their previous teams. For instance, Callahan was instrumental in guiding the Cincinnati Bengals to select Joe Burrow as the top pick in the 2019 Draft. Similarly, Borgonzi played a key role in the Kansas City Chiefs' decision to trade up for Patrick Mahomes, marked as a pivotal move that led to the franchise's resurgence.
As the Titans approach the draft, currently holding the coveted No. 1 pick, they are weighing their options between top prospects like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward from Miami. While mock drafts position Sanders just outside the top 10, Ward concurrently ranks high within various analyses. ESPN analysts have contrasting views but agree both quarterbacks display immense potential.
Callahan refers to valuable lessons from his days working with renowned quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp, emphasizing critical traits like decision-making, timing, and accuracy. These foundational aspects are what define successful quarterback play and keep the Titans focused on these benchmarks during their evaluations.
“People had questions about Burrow’s arm strength coming out, but what makes him and potentially Shedeur unique is their timing and anticipation,” Callahan explained. “If you are throwing on time and delivering accurately, you can compensate for an average arm.”
Borgonzi shares his beliefs about the pivotal role of leadership in selecting a quarterback, understanding it as the most critical decision in sports. He reflects on the importance of character, football intelligence, and the ability to inspire teammates.
As the Titans consider their options, bringing in a veteran quarterback as a mentor for a drafted rookie isn't off the table. Currently, Will Levis, the holdover quarterback, is striving to establish himself after a challenging season. With aspirations to improve under the guidance of former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer, Levis is aiming to solidify his role as a viable option under center.
“We’re going to turn over every rock to make sure we get the right guy there,” Borgonzi stated, underscoring the Titans' commitment to rebuilding.
The Titans' pursuit of a bright future hinges on their decision at quarterback, and with prospects like Sanders and Ward under scrutiny, the upcoming draft promises to be a turning point for the franchise.
