Washington Capitals Unveil Nostalgic Third Jerseys with Local Flair
The Washington Capitals reveal their new third jerseys, blending franchise history with local pride, featuring the iconic Screaming Eagle logo.

The Washington Capitals have introduced their new third jerseys, a design that pays homage to the team's rich history and the local DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) community. These jerseys will be worn during 15 home games this season, starting with their debut on October 17 against the Minnesota Wild.
Design Elements
- Red Base: A signature color for the Capitals over the decades.
- White Shoulder Yoke: A nod to the team's 1970s and 1980s era.
- Capitol Dome Logo: Featured as the shoulder patch, reminiscent of the 1990s.
- Screaming Eagle Logo: The primary crest, used from 1995-2007, including Alex Ovechkin's early NHL seasons.
Nostalgic Touches
Alex Ovechkin expressed his excitement about the new design, stating, "It reminds me of my first year. Good days. They look cool. I hope fans are going to love it." The Screaming Eagle logo has seen a resurgence in recent years, first appearing on the 2021 Reverse Retro jerseys and later on the 2022 Reverse Retro jerseys.
Local Pride
Several design elements honor the Capitals' local fan base:
- Three Sleeve Stripes: Representing the DMV area.
- District of Columbia Flag Loop Label: Located at the back hem.
Community Engagement
The Capitals are planning various activities to showcase their new look:
- Smithsonian's National Zoo: The bald eagle statue will don the third jersey.
- Washington Nationals: Players will wear "Screaming Eagle" shirts during pregame warmups.
- Dylan Strome: The Capitals center will throw out the first pitch in the jersey before a Nationals game.
The jerseys will be available to the public starting October 17.
