Ohio State Women's Basketball Coach Kevin McGuff Faces OWI Charges Amidst Stellar Career
Ohio State women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff, recognized as the Big Ten's 2024 coach of the year, faces charges for operating a vehicle while impaired, amidst a successful coaching career.

Ohio State women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff, who was honored as the Big Ten's 2024 coach of the year, has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (OWI), according to local police reports. The incident occurred last week in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, where a witness reported that McGuff's vehicle hit several curbs and partially entered a yard before he was found behind the wheel on May 6.
McGuff refused to provide a breath sample at the scene, and his attorney, Richard Piatt, entered a not guilty plea during a hearing on Tuesday. Piatt emphasized that McGuff is presumed innocent and that the case should be resolved based on the actual facts and merits. He also stated that some of the reported details were inaccurate.
Kevin McGuff has had a distinguished coaching career, leading Ohio State to eight NCAA tournament appearances in 12 seasons and securing a Big Ten title in the 2023-2024 season. Before his tenure at Ohio State, McGuff coached at Washington and Xavier, amassing a career record of 479-212.
Ohio State University has acknowledged the charge and stated that they are in communication with McGuff and monitoring the situation closely. They have indicated that additional information will be shared at the appropriate time, as this remains an ongoing personal legal matter.
