Inside EA Sports F1 25: The Evolution of Braking Point and Its Captivating Characters

Explore how EA Sports F1 25's Braking Point mode has evolved, featuring insights from voice actors Emer Kenny and Daniel Ben Zenou on the drama and rivalries that drive the story.

The upcoming EA Sports F1 25 is set to deliver an immersive experience with its Braking Point story mode, now in its third chapter. This mode, first introduced in F1 2021, has been a fan favorite for blending high-octane racing with the intense personal rivalries and behind-the-scenes drama that Formula 1 is known for.

Emer Kenny, who voices Callie Mayer, and Daniel Ben Zenou, the voice behind Devon Butler, shared their insights on how Braking Point has evolved. Kenny, though not an avid F1 follower, finds the human dynamics within the sport fascinating. She drew inspiration from her husband's fandom and the Netflix series Drive to Survive, which has brought many new fans to the sport by showcasing the personalities behind the drivers.

Zenou, who has been with Braking Point since its inception, highlighted the growth of the mode. "It's really a portrayal of the drivers behind the drivers," he said. "This next version is going to be bigger and broader than we've seen it before."

The story of Braking Point 3 revolves around the estranged siblings Callie and Devon. Callie, after her historic victory in Formula 2, moves up to F1, while Devon faces the challenge of adjusting to life after early retirement. Their father, who buys their team, adds another layer of complexity to their relationship. As the team climbs the ranks, the siblings must navigate their personal and professional conflicts.

Kenny described Callie's journey: "She's hitting her stride, but there are struggles with dynamics and power within the team. Then something massive happens within her family, and her and Devon's reactions are extremely different."

Zenou, on the other hand, drew inspiration from Lance Stroll and his father Lawrence Stroll for Devon's character. "He's gone through this big transition of having to let go of his dreams," Zenou explained.

The introduction of Callie in Braking Point 2 was initially controversial, but Kenny embraced the mixed reactions. "It's nice to have some rough edges and some spikiness to play with," she said. She incorporated elements of Zenou's Devon into her performance to emphasize their sibling rivalry.

Both actors expressed their enthusiasm for the game's development. Zenou recalled the modest beginnings of Braking Point: "We had maybe five to six people on the whole job. Now, we have a massive 120-page script and 50, 60 people in the mocap hangar."

When asked which F1 team their characters would fit into, Zenou chose Ferrari for Devon, citing its heritage and style. Kenny opted for Red Bull, describing Callie as "punchy and dynamic."

As for the real-world F1 season, Zenou predicted Max Verstappen would win, while Kenny backed Lando Norris. Fans can experience the drama of Braking Point themselves when F1 25 releases on May 30, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
