Fury's Retirement: A Look Back
Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing five times. Here's a look back at his previous retirements and returns.

Tyson Fury's Retirement: A Look Back
Tyson Fury has shocked the boxing world once again with his latest retirement announcement. But this is not the first time that Fury has decided to call it quits.
Fury first retired in 2013 after a fight with David Haye was cancelled for the second time. He returned three months later, defeating American Joey Abell.
In 2016, Fury withdrew from a heavyweight title rematch with Wladimir Klitschko for the second time to address his mental health. He then announced his retirement, but backtracked hours later on Twitter.
Fury's third retirement came in 2017, after he had beaten Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 but not returned to the ring for three years. He announced his retirement in August 2017, but returned in May 2018 to defeat Sefer Seferi.
In 2022, Fury once again announced his retirement after his win over Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC title. He then reaffirmed his retirement with a social media post on August 12, 2022, tweeting: "I've finally decided to walk away & on my 34th birthday I say Bon voyage." He also relinquished his Ring title on that day.
Fury's latest retirement announcement comes after back-to-back undisputed heavyweight title defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the first of his career. Fury cited Dick Turpin in this social media announcement, which could hint at the unanimous decision to award the fight to Usyk in December as "even Dick Turpin wore a mask" is a common expression when someone feels that they have been robbed or conned. Turpin was an infamous 18th century English thief.
It remains to be seen whether Fury will stage another U-turn and return to the ring. Only time will tell.
