Trevor Lawrence’s New Era: How Jaguars’ Offseason Moves Shape the 2025 NFL Season
Explore how the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offseason moves impact QB Trevor Lawrence as he navigates a revamped offense for the 2025 NFL season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have undergone a significant transformation during the 2025 offseason, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. With key departures and new additions, quarterback Trevor Lawrence faces a fresh challenge as he adapts to a new system and playmakers.
Key Changes in the Jaguars’ Offense
The Jaguars bid farewell to two of Lawrence’s most trusted targets, Christian Kirk and Evan Engram, who accounted for a significant portion of the team’s passing success. Kirk was traded to the Houston Texans, while Engram was released, freeing up $16.4 million in salary cap space. These moves signal a shift in the team’s offensive philosophy under new head coach Liam Coen.
According to ESPN Research, Lawrence’s performance was notably better when targeting Kirk and Engram. From 2022 to 2024, he completed 70.2% of his passes to the duo, with 21 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and an off-target rate of 14.3%. In contrast, his completion percentage dropped to 61.9% when targeting other players.
New Faces, New Opportunities
With Kirk and Engram gone, second-year receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is poised to become the focal point of the Jaguars’ passing game. Thomas had a stellar rookie season, finishing third in the NFL with 1,282 receiving yards and setting franchise rookie records in receptions (87) and touchdown catches (10).
“Our pass game will run through him,” Coen said of Thomas. “He’s so dynamic, and we’re excited to expand his role in the offense.”
Alongside Thomas, Gabe Davis is expected to step up as the WR2, while Dyami Brown, signed to a one-year $10 million deal, brings vertical explosiveness and run-after-cash ability to the unit. Tight end Brenton Strange is also anticipated to play a larger role, especially after Engram’s departure.
Adapting to a New System
Lawrence is no stranger to change. Since entering the NFL in 2021, he’s learned three different offensive systems. Coen’s system, heavily influenced by Sean McVay’s offense, will require Lawrence to adjust once again. However, the Jaguars have surrounded him with experienced mentors, including quarterback Nick Mullens and center Robert Hainsey, who can help ease the transition.
“Robert will be a massive help to Trevor early in the process,” general manager James Gladstone said. “His familiarity with the system and ability to make line calls will be invaluable.”
The Road Ahead
With the NFL draft approaching, the Jaguars’ roster could undergo further changes. Lawrence’s ability to adapt to these shifts will be critical to the team’s success in 2025. While the quarterback has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career, the Jaguars believe he’s yet to reach his full potential.
“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Trevor,” Gladstone said. “I’m excited for Coach Coen to work with him and unlock his capabilities.”
As Lawrence embarks on this new chapter, the Jaguars’ offseason moves set the stage for a pivotal season. Whether he can thrive in this revamped offense will determine the team’s trajectory in the competitive AFC South.
