Jacksonville Jaguars' Fresh Leadership: A New Era Begins with Young GM and Coach
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is optimistic about the team's future under the leadership of young GM James Gladstone and head coach Liam Coen, marking a new chapter for the franchise.

A New Dawn for the Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are stepping into a new era with a fresh leadership team that promises to bring renewed energy and vision to the franchise. Owner Shad Khan has expressed his excitement over the appointments of 34-year-old General Manager James Gladstone and 39-year-old head coach Liam Coen, both of whom are taking on their respective roles for the first time.
Shad Khan's Optimism
Khan believes that the youthful exuberance and innovative thinking of Gladstone and Coen will be key to turning around the fortunes of the Jaguars. "We have great people and a great team of people, even though they might be in the position for the first time," Khan said during Gladstone's introductory news conference. "I think collectively they're going to have great success. I think we're all aware that they're new, but [they have] a huge amount of potential to really grow into it."
The Complementary Duo
Despite their lack of experience in their current roles, Khan is confident that the combination of Gladstone's strategic acumen and Coen's coaching prowess will complement each other perfectly. "The brainpower, the bandwidth, the different experience, are really complementary. This isn't about, 'Hey, I've got X years of experience in something.' A lot of times it turns out to be one year of experience X times over. I just think the brain matter here is going to be great for the Jaguars," Khan added.
Gladstone's Background
Gladstone comes to Jacksonville after a successful stint with the Los Angeles Rams, where he served as the director of scouting strategy for the last three years. His role involved strategic planning and overseeing the team's daily scouting processes, which helped the Rams maintain a competitive edge.
Coen's Vision
Liam Coen, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience from various coaching roles, including his time as an offensive coordinator at the University of Maine, the Los Angeles Rams, and the University of Kentucky. Coen's primary focus will be on connecting with the players and ensuring that the team can adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of the NFL.
A Fresh Perspective
Both Gladstone and Coen are aware of the challenges that come with their lack of experience but are determined to leverage their fresh perspectives to drive the Jaguars to success. "I don't know that we've actually talked about our age at all," Gladstone said. "The interesting thing I do think we both start from a place of humility, and I think that that makes a lot of stuff easy and seamless. While at the same time there's this aura of confidence and understanding that we have a dynamic asset and that is our ability to see what tools are available and apply and execute those within our spheres."
Looking Ahead
As the Jaguars prepare for the upcoming season, the focus will be on fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability. With a young and dynamic leadership team in place, the future looks bright for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Khan's enthusiasm is palpable as he looks forward to what lies ahead: "Well, what a start to 2025," he said. "I hope everyone is as energized as I am, as we aim at the bright future on the field and continue to succeed as we have off the field."
